4 Months!

So,  Reed has been on a mission to catch up on lost calories ever since his surgery. I knew he was chunking up, but we didn’t have numbers til today at his checkup. He now weighs 17lb 6oz and is 26.5 inches long! Apparently he set off warnings in their computer system for both height and weight because he grew so quickly.

Before surgery, he was about 50th percentile for weight and height (his growth had slowed down even from his two month appt). Now, he’s 77th percentile for weight and 82nd for height!! That is an insane growth rate for a month and a half! I mean, the rolls  don’t lie and we knew he was catching up, but I love having that proof that the surgery was the right decision.

Since the surgery,  he doesn’t swallow air when he’s nursing, can now take a bottle without choking and gagging, and hasn’t once projectile puked! I’m calling it a win. Love my big boy!

Also, he’s been sitting up! That started about a week ago. This kid is determined to move!

Watch “Not into my art project.” on YouTube

This made me laugh. I’m trying to work on an art project that requires a profile photo of the boys. Gray was being less than accommodating but in the cutest possible way.

This is just kind of a boring video , but Reed is so cute he can pull it off. 🙂

A few cute ones

Our 3 month old is doing great! He loves his jumper, is back to being cool with the car, is grabbing for things and pulling them to his mouth, and is smiling for the better part of every day.

He also has gotten noticeably fatter just in the last week. Since the surgery he has completely stopped projectile vomiting, and spent about 5 days eating non stop before he felt like he had caught up. It just makes me more certain that we did the right thing! Cheers to fat babies!

He’s loving being in the middle of all the rough housing!

Halloween and The Weed Update

These pics are all in reverse order,  but I can’t rearrange them without a lot of time and my laptop. Every time I open the laptop,  G swarms it and develops 3 extra arms and manages to push alllll the buttons. So instead, just enjoy that you get to see the happy ending first.

Halloween was a blast. Evelyn and Grey were reunited and they rocked the trick or treating. They lasted the whole loop around the boarding school campus- about 90min of running from house to house. The faculty, including Erin, live on campus so every year they arrange for all the faculty kids to trick or treat on campus. Most of the houses participate, as well as a good number of dorms. It was an absolute blast.

Hazel is 5mos old now- nearly sitting up, and her cheeks are to die for.

Evelyn and Grey played like crazy. Right here they are both in the boat. 🙂

All lined up.  One of their favorite parts was the side by side stroller. I never would have guessed!

Candy and a cookie for dinner.

Super energy. Kid was running yelling “dasher,  dasher!”  (faster,  faster!)

Reed on the 2nd day. Still not too many smiles,  but he was alert and in less pain.

I’m trying a new video sharing site. Let me know and use the YouTube link if the top one doesn’t work.

We had Reed’s 2 month appointment last week. He’s 12lb, 3oz, and 23 1/4 inches long. 61st percentile across the board, and looking good!

We took him to a pediatric ENT as well, and had his tracheomalacia officially diagnosed. For the people who didn’t know about this, it’s what makes his breathing so loud. He has extra tissue in his throat that claps shut when he inhales.

This is not deadly and kids normally grow out of it, but it does get worse before it gets better up to about 8mos. This is just because they get heavier so they naturally have to work harder to breathe. Unfortunately this places Reed right in the middle of cold and flu season. That and the fact that his case is categorized as “moderate to severe” means that he will have a procedure to fix it. Oct 29 is the day, it’s very low risk and involves about an hour with a laser.
Anyhoo, we’re bummed he has to have something done while he’s so little, but he will be able to breathe much more easily, his reflux will likely improve, and he can start sleeping better and gaining more weight. All good things.

And as you can see, he’s happy now- imagine how happy he’ll be when he feels great!

Send good vibes our way, but don’t waste brain space on worrying. The reality is much less scary than the imagined.

We went to a hilltop Fall Party last night. The views were spectacular, and grey managed to stay up and outside after dark. That’s the only upside to the days getting shorter.

2 months today!

I’ll be back with more, but I need to fix my phone first. I had a whole post written out yesterday and my phone spontaneously and I lost the whole darn thing.

I’m just going to leave you with this:

image

The left is grey at 6 weeks. On the right is our little Weed at 8.5 weeks. I’m going to start eating avocados covered in melted cheese.

Nothing wrong with a more streamlined form, but I want more rolls! 🙂 More rolls = more sleep for all of us. That’s reason enough to start on the high fat diet.

The awesome thing is that the Weed doesn’t need to be fat to be a great cuddler. Man. He is the best!

Watch “8 weeks!” on YouTube

This is pretty boring to most everyone- 8 weekers don’t have much to say. If you want to see a baby being a baby, watch on. He’s starting to mimic and pay more attention to talking. He’s still sleeping horribly, but he’s so cute I think I’ll just hang in there.
